Downtown hotel Windsor
Windsor is known to the rest of the world as the “City of Roses.” This reputation comes from the city’s many magnificent downtown gardens and parks – dotted over the entire city, these parks break up urban scene with welcome greenery. The Hilton Windsor hotel is well-situated to allow our guests to easily explore these metropolitan oases.
One of the most famous of Windsor’s parks is the Odette Sculpture Park, just minutes from the Hilton hotel by foot. The park functions as a museum without walls, with over 30 contemporary sculptures spread out over 3.5 kilometres. The park is located right on the Riverfront, between the Ambassador Bridge linking Windsor with downtown Detroit, Michigan and the Art Gallery of Windsor.
The gorgeous Dieppe Gardens also run along the riverside not far from the hotel, overlooking the Detroit River and Detroit skyline. The gardens are named for the members of the Essex-Kent Scottish regiment that lost their lives during the World War II landing at Dieppe. The gardens feature a rainbow of annual and perennial flowers and monuments to many historic Canadian figures and events.
The property surrounding Willistead Manor, a 36 room turn-of-the-century mansion, is known appropriately as Willistead Park. The grounds contain many rare species of trees, including Windsor’s only Persimmon, a rare Shumard oak, several Kentucky coffee trees, European Elms and Trees of Heaven. Visitors can experience the splendor of a true English garden, as well as explore the magnificence manor house. Every year the park hosts “Art in the Park,” a very popular arts and crafts show.
Perhaps Windsor’s most elegant downtown park is Jackson Park, with its expansive lawns, flower gardens and brick-laid pathways. Within Jackson Park you’ll find the Queen Elizabeth II Gardens, a collection of sunken gardens with flowers, rocks, and reflecting pools. The park includes some of the most magnificent gardens and fountains in all of Windsor.
The Hilton Windsor hotel’s riverfront location makes it the perfect place from which to discover the green jewels of downtown Windsor parks.
