Windsor is often called the “City of Roses,” a reputation that stems from the city’s many magnificent downtown gardens and parks. These parks spread over the entire city, breaking up the metropolitan scene with welcome greenery. The grounds surrounding Willistead Manor, a turn of the century mansion built by the famous Walker family, are known appropriately as Willistead Park. The property shelters many rare species of trees, including a rare Shumard oak, several Kentucky coffee trees, European Elm, Tree of Heaven and Windsor’s only persimmon, Visitors can explore the magnificence manor house and marvel at the splendor of a true English garden. Each year a very popular arts and crafts show called “Art in the Park” takes place on the grounds.

Perhaps Windsor’s most famous park is the Odette Sculpture Park, just minutes from the Quality Suites hotel by foot. Known as a museum without walls, the park features over 30 contemporary sculptures on over 3.5 kilometres. The park is located right on the river, between the Art Gallery of Windsor and the Ambassador Bridge which links Windsor with downtown Detroit, Michigan.
Also running along the riverside not far from the hotel are the gorgeous Dieppe Gardens, which overlook the Detroit River and Detroit skyline. These beautiful gardens are named for the members of the Essex-Kent Scottish regiment that were lost during the World War II landing at Dieppe. The gardens contain monuments to many historic Canadian figures and events, dotted among a rainbow of annual and perennial flowers.

Knows as Windsor’s most elegant park, Jackson Park has expansive lawns, flower gardens and brick-laid pathways. Inside the park you’ll discover many treasures like the Queen Elizabeth II Gardens, a magnificent collection of sunken gardens with flowers, stones, and reflecting pools. Some of the most superb gardens and fountains in all of Windsor are found in Jackson Park.
